Rossal

'Rossal', a house with half-timbered gables at 31 Island Bank Road, Inverness, was built in 1888-89 for Thomas Edward Buckley, a wealthy English gentleman. He, along with his wife, Mary, and their two children were the houses first inhabitants.

The neighbouring property, 'Carrol', at 29 Island Bank Road, was built at the same time for Jane Reed, a widow. She was a relative of Mary Buckley. Both women were born in Sutherland and chose to name their houses after places in that county which were known to them: Rossal after a hill near the River Naver; Carrol after a hill near Brora.

'Rossal' later became a nursing home.
