Dunlop Rubber Co. (Scotland) Ltd

In 1888, John Boyd Dunlop, a native of North Ayrshire, successfully made air-filled tyres for his son's bicycle. He applied for a patent for pneumatic bicycle tyres which was granted on 23 July 1888. In 1889 he sold the idea to Harvey du Cross who founded the Dunlop Rubber Company Limited. Dunlop himself was never associated with this firm.

The company's Inverness branch was at 20 Millburn Road
