The group includes the officers and instructors of the Training Wing at the Depot Seaforth Highlanders at Fort George in 1953. They were responsible for training Regular and National Service recruits for the Seaforth Highlanders. The officer in the centre is Captain James Newton. In 1953 the training course for recruits lasted for ten weeks. The trained soldiers were then drafted to the 1st Battalion Seaforth Highlanders which was stationed at Buxtehude in West Germany at the time. The names of those in the group can be found in 'Cabar Feidh', the regimental magazine of the Seaforth Highlanders, which can be read at the Regimental Museum of The Highlanders at Fort George.
