The old Caledonian Hotel, on Bank Street in Inverness was built in 1780 with funds from the two Masonic Lodges in the town. The building was referred to as The Mason's Hotel or the Mason Lodge Hotel until about 1825, when it changed its name to the Caledonian Hotel. The building was extended in both 1822 and 1882. The masons continued to meet in the hotel until its demolition in 1966
