Soldier of The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders C 1954

This studio portrait of a soldier of The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders was taken at Inverness in 1954. Recruits who had passed off the square at Cameron Barracks, were allowed to walk out into Inverness at weekends, and were normally expected to wear this order of dress, with kilt and spats. The leather sporran, although less eye-catching than the hair sporran, was convenient for holding money, cigarettes etc.

(This information was kindly supplied by the Regimental Museum of The Highlanders, Fort George).
