Inside Inverernie Stores

Inverernie Stores near Daviot. The shop sold groceries, provisions and frozen foods.

One of our users has recently got in touch with us to say that at the time the photograph was taken, the shop was run by his grandparents, Alex and Betty Steadwood. Alex was formerly the pigman on the Inverernie Estate and his wife was asked to manage the stores when they were built. The couple bought the stores in 1959 when the estate was split up and remained there until at least 1962. The stores originally had two petrol pumps; one for BP super and one for BP regular.

An interesting publication regarding life in the parish of Daviot and Dunlichity from the early 20th century onwards is 'Tales of Dunlichity: The Stories of Willie MacQueen' (2002) edited by Charlie Fraser Larimer.
