Glen Quoich

Glen Quoich is on the Glengarry estate. Part of the Glen Quoich area is now under water as a hydro-electricity dam built in Loch Quoich in the 1950s raised the water of the loch by 100 feet. One of the houses lost in the process was Glen Quoich Lodge, which was visited by several famous people, such as the sculptor and painter Sir Edwin Landseer (1802-1873) and King Edward VII. The King was entertained by Lord Burton of Dochfour who leased the lodge from 1873-1905 from the Ellices of Glen Garry and Glen Quoich. The present Lord Burton owns the 5000-acre Dochfour Estate, near Inverness.
