Inverness Railway Station

Inverness Railway Station forecourt. A poster advertizes LMS 'Coast and country' services and there are signs for the left luggage office, postal telegraph office and enquiry office. The many advertising signs include 'Stephens' (a brand of ink) and one featuring holly leaves with the caption 'Send them all greeting boxes of Craven "plain" ', suggesting that the photograph was taken shortly before Christmas. The railway opened in 1855 with a line to Nairn, and the station was designed by the Highland Railway engineer Joseph Mitchell
