The redwing is easily distinguished by its orange-red flank and cream stripe above the eye. It is a migratory bird, breeding in northern Europe and Siberia, and wintering mainly in western and southern Europe. In Scotland, the redwing nests in large gardens, hedgerows, oak woods, birch woods and conifer plantations.

In this short audio extract, recorded in springtime in Wester Ross, the redwing's thin 'seep' call can be heard
