The central block is the Post Office by the Ministry of Public Buildings and works (1965-69). The mosaic tile finished Post Office building replaced the Victorian Post Office, which was built to one of Alexander Ross' best designs (1896).

Alexander Ross's surviving achievements in Inverness include St Andrew's Cathedral and the Midmills College building.
