Fort Augustus is a village located on the south-west shore of Loch Ness. It was known as Kiliwhimin until the eighteenth century, and it is still known by its Gaelic name 'Cill Chuimein', thought to named after Saint Cummein of Iona. The town was renamed Fort Augustus in the wake of the unsuccessful Jacobit Uprising of 1715.
