This image shows a thatched cottage near Bunessan on Mull. The house is of a type that emerged in the eighteenth century. This style of cottage can be recognised by its square ends, triangular gables and especially by the chimney flues in the gable ends. A porch of corrugated iron has been added to the front of the cottage. Many cottages of this type had slate rooves, but thatched roofs like the one in this image were also common.
A traditional drystone wall is seen to the left of the image.
