Old Stable Block, Cromarty House

When George Ross of Pitkerie acquired the Cromarty Estate in 1767 he demolished the existing medieval building - Cromarty Castle - and erected a Georgian mansion house in its place - Cromarty House. Today, the old stable block at Cromarty House has been fully restored by the Cromarty Arts Trust and now provides workshops, studios and accommodation for a range of cultural and artistic activities.

George Ross, a native of Fearn, made his fortune in London as an army agent. Other local projects undertaken by him included a new harbour, a hemp factory, Cromarty Courthouse and a local brewery
