Loch at Lochinver

This photograph shows a view of the loch at Lochinver, on the west coast of Sutherland. Located at the terminus of the A837, Lochinver is an Anglicisation of the Gaelic 'Loch an Inbhir', which translates as the loch of the inlet. The village's heart centres on the Main Street which runs alongside Loch Inver.

Lochinver is located in a rugged and remote region of the Highlands and perhaps its most distinctive feature is not actually located in the village itself but is in fact the stunning view it affords of nearby Suilven (2398 feet). Hillwalkers and climbers frequently descend on the region to set off on the walk up one of Scotland's most evocative peaks.
