This photograph shows a view from near the village of Broadford, on the Isle of Skye, looking across to Loch Kishorne and the mountains of Applecross in the west.

Broadford is Skye's second largest settlement and is located in the shadows of the Red Cuillin mountains on the southern side of Broadford Bay, on the east coast of the island. Broadford's origins date back to the late 1700s, when a cattle market was held there. In 1812, the road from Kyleakin to Portree was built by Thomas Telford through the village and, subsequently, the village began to grow rapidly.
