Dornie Ferry

A view of the Dornie ferry, which operated between the small village of Dornie and Ardelve, in Lochalsh. Dornie is located at the foot of Loch Long and Loch Duich, and was originally founded as a fishing and trading community by the British Fisheries Society.

The ferry connected Ardelve to Dornie and across Loch Duich to Totaig. By its final year of operation, the ferry ran from eight in the morning until eight at night. A bridge across Loch Long to Ardelve was finally constructed in 1940 to replace the ferry. This bridge was subsequently replaced in 1990 by a more modern one.
