School Group at Blairbeg at Royal Jubilee (1935)

In the early 20th Century, rural Scotland had far stronger Unionist and Monarchist sentiments than it now has. At the time of this photograph, Britain still possessed an empire and was a major world power. In this photograph a group of children from the school can be seen celebrating the Jubilee year, marking the 25th anniversary of George V as King. Before becoming monarch, King George was Earl of Inverness. He died in 1936 from bronchial problems.

The headmaster Hugh Fraser can be seen in this photograph fourth from the left, wearing a military hat.
