Boys Brigade Parade

In villages such as Glenurquhart, the Boys Brigade had an important roll in forming social cohesion and as an organisation, it was seen as reflecting the prevailing values of the Highlands.

This photograph depicts some members of the Boys Brigade at a special parade, possibly to commemorate Armistice Day. The Boys Brigade had militaristic elements, such as marching and wearing uniforms, but also had a spiritual element brought by its ties to the Church of Scotland. One of the boys in this photograph carries a British flag, the Union Jack, and another carries the Scottish flag, the Saint Andrew's Cross.
