In Glenurquhart, as with many Highland towns, sports days are an important event because they create a bond in the community. This photograph depicts a sports day in Glenurquhart, probably the Queen's Jubilee.

The event depicted is a novelty race, where the participants have to wear Wellington boots and put on hats in the process. Whilst this may not have the gravitas of other sports, it demonstrates the way in which communal activities helped to build a strong community, where people would not mind making fun of themselves.
