'The Key Above The Door', Tirriemore Croft

Two lady visitors pose for a photograph with 'the key above the door' outside Tirriemore croft, approximately 10 km outside of Grantown on Spey, near to Lochindorb.

The large key usually hung above the front door of Tirriemore croft house and the place was the inspiration for a best-selling romantic novel called 'The Key Above The Door' by Irish author Maurice Walsh. The croft house was a popular destination for fans of Walsh's novel.

'The Key Above The Door' was published in 1926 and was Maurice Walsh's first novel. His best known work was the short story 'The Quiet Man', published in 1935. It was later made into a film of the same name starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara.
