Strathspey War Memorial, Grantown on Spey

Located in the main square, the War Memorial at Grantown on Spey was designed by Alexander Marshall MacKenzie and unveiled by the Countess of Seafield on 18 September, 1921.

Alexander Marshall Mackenzie (1848-1933) was an Aberdeen-based architect, whose work was well known in the northeast of Scotland. Marshall MacKenzie's best known work is probably Marischal College in Aberdeen, which he significantly extended between 1893 and 1905. He also designed Crathie church, which was built between 1893 and 1895, and is attended by the royal family on their visits to Balmoral.

Marshall MacKenzie designed several buildings in Grantown on Spey, including the Grant Arms Hotel and the original Grantown Grammar School building on South Street.
