Bealach na Bà

In the 1820s a road was built over the Bealach na Ba to Applecross. The Bealach na Ba, or Pass of the Cattle, is at a height of 2053ft above sea level and the road climbs to this height in just five miles. With gradients of 1 in 5 and hairpin bends, a sign at the bottom of the road warns "Not advised for learner drivers, very large vehicles or caravans after first mile". One of those hairpin bends can be seen in this photograph which was taken by William Millar, a mobile driver for Highland Libraries
