Ex-Devon Belle Observation Car at Inverness, 1962

This photograph shows an observation car on the rear of a train at Inverness in July 1962.

The observation car was one of two used on the Devon Belle service which ran between London Waterloo and Plymouth from 1947 to 1954. From 1954 to 1961 they worked on British Railways' London Midland Region. In 1961 they were transferred to the Scottish Region where one worked on the Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh line while the other formed part of trains between Glasgow and Oban.
