HR 16 'Findhorn'

A photograph of HR 16 'Findhorn', a box saddle tank engine.

This locomotive was built for the Findhorn Railway by Neilsons in 1859 and had an 0-4-0 wheel arrangement. It passed to the Inverness & Aberdeen Junction Railway in April 1862 and then to the Highland Railway in 1865.

It was withdrawn in September 1872 after which it was sold to a private contractor in Wick and put to work on railway construction sites, initially for the Sutherland & Caithness Railway. It was during this period of the locomotive's life that this photograph was taken..
