HR 24 was built for the Inverness & Aberdeen Junction Railway by Sharp Stewart in August 1863. It was one of ten engines in the '18' class and had a 2-4-0 wheel arrangement. It passed to the newly-formed Highland Railway in 1865. The HR had it rebuilt with new cylinders and other fittings in September 1876. It was withdrawn in 1904. At some time it had been renamed 'Lairg'.
