Between September 1863 and October 1864, the Inverness and Aberdeen Junction Railway introduced 18 Glenbarry class locomotives. These were 2-2-2s intended primarily for passenger traffic. They were numbered 28 to 35 and 46 to 55.

This photograph shows HR 51 'Blair Atholl'. Originally named 'Caithness', it was rebuilt as a 2-4-0 in July 1875 having been renamed 'Blair Atholl' the previous year. It was withdrawn from service in 1893.
