Between September 1863 and October 1864, the Inverness and Aberdeen Junction Railway introduced 18 Glenbarry class locomotives. These were 2-2-2s intended primarily for passenger traffic. They were numbered 28 to 35 and 46 to 55.

This photograph shows HR 50 'Badenoch'. Originally named 'Aultnaskiah'', it was rebuilt as a 2-4-0 in April 1878 and renamed 'Badenoch'. It was withdrawn from service in April 1897.
