'Chuir iad mise' is a traditional Gaelic children's song. It is arranged and sung here by Christina Stewart, a performer and teacher of traditional Scottish songs.

Chuar iad mise eilean leam fhin (x3)
Eilean mara, fada bho thir

Fada, fada, fada bho thir (x3)
Eliean mara, fada bho thir

The English translates as:

They left me on an island, all by myself (x3)
A sea island, far from land

Far, Far, far from land (x3)
A sea island, far from land

(Holding hands in a circle round a volunteer and their parent, crouch low and use arm movements to mimic little waves around the island. Sing first verse quietly. Circle rises to standing and uses arms to mimic big waves crashing over the island while singing second verse loudly. Repeat from the start, taking turns to sit on the 'island')

The song is included in Christina Stewart's CD, 'Bairn's Kist', a collection of traditional Scottish songs designed to encourage adults to sing, play and connect with young children. Christina, a native of Inverness, studied traditional song as part of her university degree. She now works with all age groups, teaching and performing traditional songs.
