'A Sailor Went to Sea' is a traditional Scottish children's song. It is arranged and sung here by Christina Stewart, a performer and teacher of traditional Scottish songs.

A sailor went to sea, sea, sea
To see what he could see, see, see,
But all that he could see, see, see
Was the bottom of the deep blue sea, sea, sea

A sailor went to anchor, anchor, anchor...

A sailor went to knee, knee, knee...

A sailor went to sea, anchor, knee...

(Sitting facing your child, alternate clapping hands together and holding hands up for them to clap with yours. On 'sea, sea, sea, touch forehead three times mimicking salute. On 'anchor' cross forearms across chest three times. On 'knee' touch knees three times. On sea, anchor, knee' do one of each action.)

The song is included in Christina Stewart's CD, 'Bairn's Kist', a collection of traditional Scottish songs designed to encourage adults to sing, play and connect with young children. Christina, a native of Inverness, studied traditional song as part of her university degree. She now works with all age groups, teaching and performing traditional songs.
