Proposal for the Inverness Journal and Northern Advertiser

A two-page proposal for a new weekly newspaper to be entitled 'The Inverness Journal and Northern Advertiser'. The first edition was to be published on Friday 7th August 1807 and to continue every Friday after that. It was to be published by John Young, Bookseller, Stationer and Printer of Inverness.

The publisher states that he is aware of the problems of undertaking a new newspaper but he has made arrangements to get news from Edinburgh, London and other major cities. He will receive this news by Friday morning mail and will then be able to publish his paper on Friday afternoon. He points out that the newspaper will contain the same news as the major city newspapers but that it will reach people around the Inverness area much quicker. This was because the distance the paper had to travel would be less.

This manuscript is from the collection of the Clan Donald Library and Museum of the Isles, Isle of Skye
