LMS 14523 'Durn' at Aviemore, July 1934

The first new class of locomotive designed for the Highland Railway by Christopher Cumming was a powerful 4-4-0 passenger engine. Known as the 'No. 73'class, two were built by Hawthorn Leslie in 1916. They were numbered in 73 and 74 and both passed into LMS ownership in 1923.

This photograph shows LMS 14523 'Durn' (previously HR 74) at Aviemore in July 1934. It was the second Highland Railway loco to bear that name. It continued in service until being withdrawn in April 1935.
