Train near Broomhill, Strathspey Railway

This photograph shows a train on the Strathspey Railway approaching Broomhill hauled by Ivatt Class 2 2-6-0 No. 46512.

This line was opened by the Inverness & Perth Junction Railway on 3 August 1863 and closed tin 1965. The track was later removed. The line from Boat of Garten to Broomhill was rebuilt by the Strathspey Railway and reopened in 1997 and now sees regular steam hauled trains throughout the tourist season.

The locomotive was one of many built in the 1940s and early 1950s to the design of H A Ivatt for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway for use on short passenger and freight trains, mainly on branch lines.
