Buckie Highland Railway station

This photograph shows the Highland Railway station at Buckie after the line had been finally closed and the track removed. The photographer is looking towards Portessie.

Buckie was on the branch line from Keith to Portessie, opened on 1 August 1884. Passenger services were withdrawn as a wartime economy measure on 9 August 1915, but some freight traffic continued until 1917, when the track was lifted as it was needed for the war effort. Track was re-laid and freight services resumed on 2 June 1919, worked by the Great North of Scotland Railway. Freight services continued until 1 April 1944.
