Nairn Station looking east, June 1975

A view of Nairn Station, looking east. It was taken in June 1975.

Nairn station was opened in 1855 as the eastern terminus of the Inverness and Nairn Railway (I&NR) which connected those two towns. In 1861 the I&NR became part of the Inverness and Aberdeen Junction Railway which in turn was one of the companies which merged to form the Highland Railway in 1865. It is still served by regular passenger services although it was closed to goods traffic in August 1983. The goods shed has been dismantled and can now be seen at Bridge of Dun station on the preserved Caledonian Railway.
