Newtonmore station was opened by the Inverness and Perth Junction Railway (I&PJR) in September 1863. The I&PJR was one of the companies which merged to form the Highland Railway in 1865. It is still served by regular passenger services although it was closed to goods traffic in June 1983. The goods shed, sidings and one of the platforms have been removed.
