This photograph shows two Class 5 locomotives, 44723 and 44784, outside the train shed at Wick.

The Class 5 locomotives were designed for the LMS by William Stanier. Commonly known as 'Black Fives', 842 were built between 1934 and 1951.

44723 was built at Crewe in April 1949. It was withdrawn from service in October 1966. 44784 was built at Horwich in 1947. It was withdrawn in June 1964.
