This photograph shows members of the 5th (The Sutherland and Caithness) Battalion Seaforth Highlanders boarding a train at Wick in August 1914. They are leaving for Bedford where they underwent training before departing for France in May 1915.

Wick station was opened on 28 July 1874 as the terminus of the Sutherland and Caithness Railway which was operated, and later absorbed by, the Highland Railway. It is still served by regular services.
