54463 leading 44795 at Achterneed in August 1960. The service is bound for Kyle.

54463, a 4-4-0 steam locomotive, was built for the Caledonian Railway in 1910 to a design by William Pickersgill. It was numbered CR 115. After the grouping it became LMS 14463. At the time of nationalisation in 1948 it was based at Carstairs shed. It was withdrawn from service in December 1962 and disposed of in December 1964.

44795, an LMS Class 5 locomotive, was built at Horwich Works in August 1947. It was withdrawn from service in July 1967 and scrapped in December of that year. The Class 5 locomotives were designed by William Stanier. Commonly known as 'Black Fives', 842 were built between 1934 and 1951.
