A Class 37 diesel, 37295, on crossing the viaduct at Loch Achanalt about one mile east of Achanalt station in August 1992. The service is bound for Kyle.
37295 was built by English Electric in 1965. It spent the vast majority of its working life in Scotland and Wales. Its last journey was from Kyle to Inverness on 9 June 2007.
A total of 309 Class 37 diesel locomotives were built for British Railways between 1960 and 1965. They are sometimes referred to as English Electric Type 3 locos and nicknamed 'Tractors' due to the distinctive sound of their exhausts.
