A Class 47 diesel, 47233, on a freight train at Inverness. The service is bound for Millerhill.
The locomotive was built at Brush Works. It entered service in October 1965 as D1910. From February 1988 to November 1991 it carried the name 'Strombidae'. It was withdrawn in 1994 and scrapped the following year.
A total of 512 Class 47s were built for British Railways between 1962 and 1968. At the time of writing (2011) around 25 are still running on the national network, primarily as charter trains and about another 30 are owned by preserved railways.
