A diesel-hauled train at Pitlochry in 1979.

The locomotive has yet to be identified but is probably a Class 47 diesel. A total of 512 of these were built for British Railways between 1962 and 1968. At the time of writing (2011) around 25 are still running on the national network, primarily as charter trains and about another 30 are owned by preserved railways.
