Two Class 5 locomotives, 45136 and 44719, double-heading a passenger train at Aviemore in April 1955. The service is bound for Inverness via Forres.

45136 was built by Armstrong Whitworth at Elswick, Newcastle-upon-Tyne in May 1935. It was withdrawn from service in October 1964 and scrapped in February of the following year.

44719 was built at Crewe Works in March 1949. It was withdrawn from service in October 1964 and scrapped in February of the following year.

The Class 5 locomotives were designed by William Stanier. Commonly known as 'Black Fives', 842 were built between 1934 and 1951.
