Blaven from Ord, Skye

Standing at the head of Loch Slapin, Blaven is an outlier of the main Cuillin Ridge on the island of Skye. It is separated from the rest of the ridge by Glen Sligachan and, at a height of 928m (3044ft), is the only one of Skye's twelve Munros which isn't a part of the main Cuillin Ridge. The mountain is made of gabbro rock making it excellent for climbing and scrambling.

The name Blaven comes from the Gaelic Bla Bheinn but the meaning is somewhat confused. Various suggestions have been put forward including 'blue mountain', 'warm mountain', 'sunny mountain', 'mount of the blast' and 'hill of bloom'.

Blaven stands in the Strathaird Estate which has been owned and managed by the John Muir Trust since 1994.
