This image shows the Cairngorm mountains. To the right of the image, the Lairig Ghru can be seen. The Lairig Ghru is a pass in the Cairngorm Mountains, running north to south between Speyside and Deeside. Cairn Gorm and Ben Macdui rise to the east of the Lairig Ghru, and Braeriach and Cairn Toul to the west.

Near the summit of the pass, which has an elevation of 838 metres (2750 ft), are the Pools of Dee, the source of the River Dee.
