Portnahaven, Islay

Islay is the southernmost island of the Inner Hebrides. The island is closely associated with whisky production and is home to eight working distilleries.

Portnahaven is a planned village, constructed during the 19th century. Portnahaven shares a church with the nearby village of Port Wemyss. The church was built with two doors, to allow the inhabitants of the two villages to enter the church separately. The Rhinns of Islay lighthouse, built by the Stevensons in 1825, is located on Orsay Island, just off the Portnahaven coast.
