Workers at Tweed Mill, Telford Street, Inverness

This photograph shows a group of mill workers at the tweed mill which used to be on Telford Street, Inverness, roughly where the Co-op store is today.

The lady standing third from the right is Jane Cuthbert (nee Spiers). She worked as a weaver (a long family tradition) and her parents moved to Inverness from Achterarder, where her father, John Spiers, was a cotton weaver. Also in the picture are her eldest daughter Agnes MacIntosh and husband James MacIntosh, who are sitting on the far left of the picture. All four of Jane Cuthbert's daughters - Agnes, Catherine, May and Jessie worked at the mill as weavers.

[This information was kindly supplied by Jane's grandson, John Mackenzie.]
