Caledonian Football Club and Inverness Thistle Football Club used to play in the Highland Football League. They merged in 1994 to form Caledonian Thistle, in order to apply for a place in the Scottish Football League. As part of their application, they promised to move to a new, improved stadium at the end of their first season. The resulting Caledonian Stadium is situated near the Kessock Bridge beside the Moray Firth. From 1996 the team became known as Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC. Their colours are royal blue, red and white.
