Raasay House

This photograph was taken by Scottish photographer George Washington Wilson (1823-93) and was used to illustrate talks he gave on Highland history. The following description is taken from Washington Wilson's own lecture notes:

"On the opposite shore of the Sound is seen the beautiful mansion of Raasay House. The Island of Raasay was formerly the property of a Macleod, who acknowledged Macleod of Dunvegan as his chief."

Raasay House made nationwide headlines in January 2009, when a fire ripped through the premises during renovation work, causing major structural damage.
