Approch to Scourie from Kylesku

This postcard shows the approach to Scourie Village from the south, on what today is the A894. Scourie lies on the road from Kylestrome to Durness, a few miles west of Laxford Bridge. Originally a crofting township, the village is now a popular tourist destination for walkers and anglers and is renowned for palm trees, growing in the gardens of Scourie House, a result of the warming effects of the Gulf Stream. The nearby island of Handa is a Nature Reserve with a large population of seabirds which include puffins and guillemots
