Scourie Village & Bay

This postcard shows Scourie Village and Bay, Sutherland. Scourie is located on the road from Kylestrome to Durness, a few miles west of Laxford Bridge. Originally a crofting township, the village is a popular tourist destination for walkers and anglers. It is also renowned for palm trees, growing in the gardens of Scourie House, a result of the warming effects of the Gulf Stream. The nearby island of Handa is a Nature Reserve with a large population of seabirds which include puffins and guillemots

The text on the reverse of the postcard reads, 'Sutherland is a county of contrasts - wild mountains and sheltered bays, particularly on the north-west coast. The peaceful village of Scourie is typical of the gentler aspect. Scourie however is also a favourite tourist resort and a centre for some of the best fhishing in the Highlands'
